Because the thermal deflection of optical mounts can be characterized, and these deflections can controlled through thermal expansion compensation, the thermal deflection of an optical mount can be nearly eliminated. This patent-pending innovation is called ZeroDrift™ Technology. Specially designed ZeroDrift™ kinematic elements improve optical pointing stability by 85% compared to other stainless steel mounts. After a thermal fluctuation, most high-performance mirror mounts, while they return to their original alignment within a few microradians, but experience significant misalignment at elevated temperatures.
