The 05SR20AR.16 Precision Right-Angle Prism is precision polished to tight tolerances for more demanding applications. This AR.16 coated fused silica prism is 0.5 x 0.5 inch (12.7 x 12.7 mm) and 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) thick. It has a λ/10 surface flatness and a 10-5 surface quality. For UV, infrared, or thermally sensitive applications fused silica prisms are advised. Our fused silica prisms are manufactured to exacting specifications and are useful from 185 nm–2.1 μm. Newport's AR.16 broadband NIR antireflection coating is applied to the three prism faces and supports a 650 to 1000 nm wavelength range. The antireflection coating reduces surface losses yet does not affect total internal reflection or the acceptance angle. By means of total internal reflection (TIR), a right-angle prism may be used as a 90° reflector or as a 180° retroreflector. Except for reflection losses from the entry and exit faces, TIR exhibits 100% reflectivity over a very large wavelength range.
