The 6032 Spectral Calibration Lamp produces narrow, intense lines from the excitation of Neon gas. This lamp operates at 6 to 14 mA and is rated for 250 hours of life. It is used for wavelength calibration of spectroscopic instruments such as monochromators, spectrographs, and spectral radiometers. We call this a pencil lamp because of its size and shape. It is made of double bore quartz tubing with two electrodes at one end sealed into a phenolic handle. A 1 foot (305 mm) long cord with male connector is attached to the end of the handle for connection to the power supply. An AC power supply is required to run this lamp.

Due to its intense UV spectral output profile below 400 nm, Oriel recommends wearing the necessary safety equipment such as UV protective eyewear. Safety goggles or spectacles can be offered separately.
