Various fiber optic and 1“ optics adapters are available for the cylindrically shaped photodiode detectors.

884 Series Fiber Adapters

884-FC , 884-FCA , and 884-SMA are our new fiber optic adapters that are directly mounted on an 818 or a 918D series detector head. These adapters minimize the distance between the fiber tip and the detector surface to make sure that the spot size is smaller than the detector active area. Best adapter option for silicon and UV detectors either with or without using the attenuator. Best adapter option for germanium and InGaAs detectors when not requring the attenuator.

FP3 and FP4 Series Fiber Adapters

FP3/FP4 Series Connector Adapters accommodate optical fibers with SMA, ST, FC, SC and LC connectors. The adapters are attached to the 818-FA Fiber Adapter Mount with two screws. Use these adapters, togetherwith the FP4-CORE-IR collimator, when you need to use the attenuator with the germanium or InGaAs detectors to measure > 10 mW power.

FP4-CORE-IR Collimator

For our germanium and InGaAs detectors whose active diameter is 3 mm, use an FP4-CORE-IR. It has a collimating GRIN lens with the AR coating optimized for 1000–1550 nm. It is directly inserted into the FP4 Series fiber adapters. It has an AR coating on the side facing towards the photodiode, and one can apply index matching gel between the fiber tip and the adapter window to minimize insertion loss, which typically is 0.6 dB at 1550 nm. Note that FP4-CORE-IR is not spectrally calibrated and it cannot be used with the FP3-SMA adapter.

Bare Fiber Adapter

The FP3-FH1 Bare Fiber Holder is a cleverly designed fiber clamp that is used to hold 250 µm bare fibers without damaging it. It in turn plugs into the 818-FA2 Bare Fiber Holder Mount, which allows one to attach the assembly to the front end of the detector housing.

Free Space Adapters

884-UDAPT is a universal adapter to make Newport\'s 818 and 918D series photodiode sensors compatible with the Oriel 1.5 inch Series flanges and Newport\'s 1 inch Lens Tube family. 

883-OH is a 1 inch optic adapter, which gives the most stable optical mounting means for the Newport photodiode detectors. Any filter or lens with up to 0.35 thickness can be accommodated. Newport\'s A-1.25-1RR retaining ring is included and a spare can be separately purchased.

OD3 Attenuators

The all new optional 884 Series OD3 attenuators can be purchased separately to extend the optical dynamic range of the photodiode sensor heads by about 1000 times. The 10 mm clear aperture with the cross hair helps the detector alignment to the input optical beam. They are not spectrally calibrated. R at the end of the model numbers represent RoHS compliant. Non-RoHS models will be replaced upon depletion of current stock.
