These photoreceivers are ideal for fast, accurate, waveform measurements across all wavelengths from 450–1630 nm. Their clean pulse responses along with their DC coupling makes them well-suited for time-domain characterizations of 2.5-Gbit/s components and extinction-ratio measurements across popular protocols. The high gain and gradual well-behaved roll-off of the frequency response make them useful also for frequency-domain measurements.

Features

GaAs or InGaAs Version

1591_2006_Responsivity 1592_2006_Responsivity

Model 1591NF shown on left utilizes a GaAs diode providing wavelength coverage from 450 to 870 nm for visible applications. The 1592NF shown on right utilizes InGaAs providing coverage from 950 to 1630 nm for NIR applications.

62.5 µm Optical Fiber Input

These photoreceivers come standard with multimode 62.5 micron multimode fiber input, and a convenient DC-bias monitor that has a transimpedance gain of 1 mV/µA and a bandwidth of 50 kHz. Utilizing the FC connector, users simplify alignment due to the small PIN diode design.

Switchable DC-Coupled or AC-Coupled output

For those applications that cannot tolerate DC coupling, there is a convenient switch to convert the Photoreceiver output from DC- to AC-coupled—while still preserving the same overall photoreceiver performance.

Ultra-Clean Pulse Response

1592Model 1592 typical pulse and step response. The step height is achieved with 0.5 mW of optical power. The pulse height is achieved with a 50-fJ pulse at 1550 nm. For Model 1591 , the values corresponding to the output levels shown are 1.1 mW and 90 fJ at 850 nm. NOTE: Pulse response measured on a 50-GHz oscilloscope with a 1-ps optical pulse. Step response calculated from pulse response.

The ultra-clean pulse response along with the DC-coupling of the 159XNF series make them well-suited for time-domain characterizations of 2.5-Gbit/s components and extinction-ratio measurements across popular protocols.

Applications

008_2.448GHZ-b 008_3.125GHZ-b 008_5GHZ-b

Characterizing 2.5-Gbit/s components, including BER testing and generating eye diagrams as shown above at 2.5, 3.125, and 5 Gbps bit rates (left to right), heterodyne experiments, and characterizing the frequency and/or time responses of pulsed lasers, modulators, transmitters, and other lightwave components.
